Dog Town Rescue: Dogs Playing for Life Mentorship Grant Report

What was the money or product used for?

Tuition to attend the Dogs Playing For Life Mentorship Program

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Allowing more confidence in running our playgroups, and relaying the valuable information I learned to some of our volunteers, allowing the dogs to have a better experience.

How many pets did this grant help?

Any dogs coming into our care (roughly 350/year)

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We run playgroups daily, so it’s hard to pinpoint one dog specifically. We did have one named Donkey who I think we allowed more freedom to communicate as a dog in playgroups, and it helped him blossom and become more social in general. He was adopted.

Dog Town Rescue: Orvis Animal Care Grant Report

What was the money or product used for?

Dog Town Rescue applied our grant to medical bills for an urgent medical case (severe mange), medication purchases, and spaying and neutering our adoptable animals.

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant made it possible for us to save a medical case from euthanasia, bought medication to fight off respiratory infections and kennel cough, and spayed and neutered our animals pre-adoption.

How many pets did this grant help?

About five total.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Meet Burton. Burton was surrendered to Animal Care and Control of Philadelphia with a severe case of Demodex mange. Without the commitment of a rescue, Burton would be eligible for euthanasia. Dog Town Rescue saved Burton and placed him in a loving and nurturing foster home. His foster family put in weeks of time, care, love, and patience to nurse Burton back to health. He fought through infections, fever, and pain to get to where he is today (waiting for his final negative skin scrape, and then off to a forever home). We couldn’t have saved Burton without the generous Orvis grant we received from the Petfinder Foundation. Thank you!
