This adoption brought tears to our eyes…Sweet 13-year-old Isabella found a wonderful home with an experienced Chihuahua dad! This elderly Chihuahua came to us after being run over by a vehicle. She is healing nicely and will be very well taken care of by her new dad. Isabella also has two Chihuahua sisters to teach her the ropes of her new home! We are so very happy for Isabella and her new family! A big thank you to her dad for adopting from the Des Moines County Humane Society. And a big thank you to the Petfinder Foundation for the 2020 Purina Spring into Adoption Grant!

Sweet Queenie was involved in a house fire here in Burlington with her puppies, but was left behind by the owners. The owners took the surviving puppies from the home, but Queenie was found the next day sitting in front of the burned-out house with one dead puppy. Our director got the call and personally went to the home to bring Queenie to the shelter, but nobody ever came to claim her. We worked with Queenie for almost a month and she was recently adopted to a wonderful new mom.

The news story about the house fire is here.

This sweet boy came to us as a stray. He was approximately 10-12 years old and deaf. As you can see, he greatly enjoyed the comfy bed he was given to sleep on. He was at our shelter for approximately three weeks before being adopted to a wonderful fur-ever home!
