Humane Society of Parkersburg: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds

What was the money or product used for?

This grant was for 10 P.L.A.Y beds. We were grateful to receive these beds and have put them to use in our shelter. The beds were of varying sizes.

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We were able to utilize the beds immediately for the shelter dogs. They loved the flexibility of being able to position the bed however they wanted. We have cleaned a few of the beds to reuse, but we have typically been allowing the dog to take the bed with them when adopted.

How many pets did this grant help?

We have continued to reuse the beds after cleaning; to date we have helped 12 different animals with the P.L.A.Y. beds.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Meet our wonderful Mister Clark! Clark was with us at the Humane Society of Parkersburg for just over one year. When Clark arrived to our shelter in April of 2019, he was sort of a mess. He had severe skin and allergy issues that we spent many months correcting. He was so uncomfortable due to his skin that it caused some behavioral issues as well. Staff and volunteers spent extra time with him to help correct the behavioral issues as well. Clark became a favorite with the staff and volunteers! He eventually ended up living in the manager’s office at the shelter.

This is around the time that we received our P.L.A.Y. beds. Clark is a pretty big guy, weighing in at just around 80 lbs. We were given a nice large bed that fit Clark perfectly! Clark made himself very comfortable in the office and spent most of his time sharing snacks and snoozing the afternoons away on his bed.

Finally, after more than a year at the shelter, the perfect family came along and fell completely in love with Clark. When Clark left our shelter, we made sure to send him off with all his favorite things, including his food, toys, treats, and of course his bed.

We have received an update on Clark since his adoption day, and he is doing wonderfully! He still enjoys napping on his bed, but now he also has a couch of his very own. We at the Humane Society of Parkersburg would like to say thank you for providing our shelter dogs with more comfort while they are in our care.
