Marion County Humane Society: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Kong toys

It helps to keep the dogs occupied when they are in their kennels. People love to see them playing with them!

How many pets did this grant help?

We usually have 35 dogs at the shelter. As long as the Kongs don’t get chewed up, we pass them around.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Marley (first photo) is a sweet 5-year-old pit bull. Though she likes her Kong, she wants to be ladylike and have her toy held for her! Meet Marley: www.petfinder.com/petdetail/37130482.

Remy (second photo) is a 10-year-old pit bull who has been at our shelter for about two years. She spent the first eight years of her life as a money-maker for her owners. After she quit having babies, she was dumped at our shelter. We had her spayed and had multiple mammary masses removed and she is happy and healthy now. She loves toys, especially tennis balls, but being an aggressive chewer — and after one big obstruction scare — she is very limited in what she is allowed. She absolutely loves her new Kong toy! The third photo shows Tuesday, a 2-year-old pit bull/hound mix, making sure that her Kong doesn’t sneak off while she is having a rest. Meet Tuesday: www.petfinder.com/petdetail/39166155
