Underdog Pet Rescue of Wisconsin, Inc.: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We used our grant money to pay for moving to 4DX tests on our dogs versus doing regular heartworm SNAP tests.
We were able to boost our quality of care for our animals. Since receiving the grant, one of the dogs who benefited from this was able to be treated before signs of Lyme started to show themselves. This was a benefit to Bear AND his wonderful adopters, who welcomed an older dog into their homes. This made our rescue look good, too, since it resulted in the family adopting a healthier dog and not receiving surprise results at their next veterinary appointment where they do a blood test on him.
How many pets did this grant help?
25 and counting.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
A loving senior Lab mix, Bear was abandoned by his family due to their moving to a home that would not allow dogs. He had received VERY minimal vet care throughout his life when he came to our care. As with every intake, we took him in to get him up-to-date on vaccines and test him for heartworm and other vector-derived diseases. He tested positive for Lyme disease, and we were so thankful to be able to treat him now before symptoms showed themselves. Between the other medical care provided (a small-mass removal, dental cleaning, and the vaccines and 4DX test he received), we made him more adoptable to a wider range of families. He found a very loving retired couple to spend his days with and give him everything he needs from here on out! THANK YOU, ORVIS, FOR ALLOWING US TO PROVIDE AWESOME CARE FOR OUR PETS!!!
