Sadly, this grant has not helped any of the cats in our care. A few weeks ago I vaccinated a 12 week old kitten with this vaccine. He was extremely lethargic for two days following the vaccine. On the fourth day he died. I’ve attached his photo. He was a wonderful kitten and this was a terrible, unnecessary loss. A few days ago I vaccinated another kitten and he was also extremely lethargic but so far has survived. Previously, we used the 1-HCP vaccine by Nobivac and have never had any reactions like this. In comparing the two vaccines, I see that the vaccine from the grant is preserved with Neomycin. We work with a veterinary eye specialist who has told me never to use eye meds with neomycin because it can be fatally toxic in some cats. This is rare, but it does happen. I’m not sure if this is what happened; however, I do know that we’ve never had a single reaction to our previous vaccine and certainly never a death. I just can’t take this chance so we’ve decided not to use this vaccine.
