Kitsap Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Kia Pet Adoption Grant allowed Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) to hold a special Adopt Til You Drop adoption event on Nov. 25. This funding underwrote the discounted adoption fees that we were able to offer that weekend, with $100 off adult dogs' (one year and older) adoption fees and waivers of adult cats' (one year and older) adoption fees. These kinds of special adoption events bring visibility to animals available for adoption and help bring community members to the KHS campus.
How many pets did this grant help?
Sixteen animals were adopted per the adoption discount offered through the Kia Adoption Grant: 13 cats and three dogs. In addition, one puppy and seven kittens were adopted that day. A total of 24 animals were helped through this grant and were adopted during the Adopt Til You Drop event.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Beau, a 2-year-old shepherd/hound mix, was found by a good Samaritan behind the auto center at one of the Kitsap County Walmart stores. He was extremely scared and shaking on intake, but accepted vaccines.
He had no identification or microchip, so he became available for adoption when no one came to claim him. Happily, he warmed up to the gentle approach of our staff, and his personality as a friendly but slightly nervous young adult dog began to emerge, as did his playful side.
Beau came to KHS in early November 2022, and this was perfect timing for finding him a new forever home. He was adopted during the Kia Adoption Event on Nov. 25.
