Forget Me Not Animal Shelter: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We received 10 P.L.A.Y. Chill Pad pet beds, which are still in use by the cats and dogs residing in the shelter.

These beds are high quality and the pets adore them. We have used them to provide comfort to dozens of shelter pets already, from frightened strays to lonely surrenders to sick and injured cats and dogs. Every pet loves the P.L.A.Y. beds, and they are a great size for our Kurandas in the dog kennels and Meow Manor cat rooms.

How many pets did this grant help?

Ongoing - at least 35 so far, with more to come!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

1. Curly Fry, now known as Valley (first photo). Curly Fry was tossed over the shelter fence in the middle of the night, and was discovered in the morning with a badly broken leg (second photo). Throughout Curly’s surgeries and recovery, she enjoyed her P.L.A.Y. bed (third photo). She has since made a full recovery and has been adopted.

We also used these beds for a recent influx of several small dogs and cats who came in from two separate, sad hoarding situations. The photos are of Miss Kitty (fourth and fifth photos), who is recovering from surgery for a severely infected abscess and will be listed soon, and Daisy (sixth and seventh photos), a pomchi who arrived so obese and matted with feces that she had to have most of her fur removed. Daisy has just now gone to her forever home (this was her Petfinder listing).

We know that having a soft, clean, comfortable bed makes a world of difference to these abused and neglected pets — and the happy, well-adjusted pets who are simply down on their luck at the moment love them too! The last photo is of Autumn, a frisky juvenile black kitty who was listed here.

She happened to be in the office when the beds arrived, and thoroughly enjoyed being the first to check them out. She accompanied a bed back to her Meow Manor cat room, too! She has been adopted.

Thank you so much for providing this gift for our shelter pets. Please accept my apologies for the delay in reporting; the COVID-19 situation has created a few unexpected challenges and my report slipped past the due date in the wake of these changes.
