Forget-Me-Not Animal Shelter: Purina and Amazon Treats for the Holidays Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Friskies Party Mix Cat Treats product grant provided treats for in-shelter use in our cat rooms.

These treats have been a wonderful tool to assist our volunteers with the cats' socialization, habitat enrichment, and photography. The only problem is, the cats like the Friskies Party Mix so much that they won't eat any of the other types of treats we have -- so we've put other types away for now.

The Party Mix treats are great for shy cats, as we are able to lure them out from their hiding boxes and watch them grow bolder each day when they realize the rewards of coming out (treats AND love, YAY). We use the treats as "hide and seek" objects, placing them in various locations around each cat room, which is a quick and easy habitat enrichment tool. The treats have also worked wonders with our photos and videos of adoptable cats -- even the shyest cat will perk up for camera day when there are Party Mix treats involved.

How many pets did this grant help?

So far, approximately 40 different cats have moved into (and out of) the shelter since we received the grant; we still have several of the treat containers left, so hope to help another 40-60 cats before the treats run out!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Shelter stray kitty Parmesan (first three photos) turned into a big ham for the camera when we brought out the Friskies Party Mix treats! Within days of his photo session, he was spotted by his wonderful new mom, who traveled an hour from home just to meet him — and ended up bringing him on the hour-long trip back home the same day. He is blissfully happy, and is now called Windle Poons.

Current shelter cat Tiger (fourth photo) is one of our “shy guys.” We used the Friskies Party Mix treats to keep him engaged during his recent video session, so he no longer reacted to the camera as if it were a demon trying to steal his soul. We are hopeful that his new video will do the trick to show potential adopters that, if they are patient enough (and have Friskies Party Mix), they will be able to win over this shy guy and get to know the loving creampuff hiding within. Meet Tiger:

UPDATE: Tiger has been adopted!
