Gerda's Equine Rescue, Inc.: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Funds from the COVID-19 Operation Grant were used to purchase 100 bales of hay for our rescue horses.

The onset of the CORVID-19 virus brought donations to a screeching halt. We were finding great homes for our horses through all of it but needed the funds to keep our rescue going so we could continue to help horses in need. This grant paid for 100 bales of hay to help us keep our rescue horses well fed during this difficult time.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation’s COVID-19 Operation Grant, we were able to find loving homes for 27 horses from the onset of the virus in May through today!

Monk came to GER from a feedlot as 20-year-old intact donkey with horrendous slipper feet [overgrown, turned-up hooves]. He went to foster with one of our amazing trimmers who volunteered her time to perform the daily trims that Monk needed to get his feet back on track. After several months of trimming, he could walk comfortably again. Through the process, she fell in love with him and ended up adopting him into her herd!

I’ve attached before and after pictures of Monk here for you.
