Alleghany Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Alleghany Humane Society (AHS) used the KIA grant funds to reduce adoption fees, which removed a financial barrier to adoption. Our adoption fees are $45 for cats and $75 or $100 for dogs. The KIA grant funds have allowed AHS to offer a $25 adoption fee for all cats and dogs until the grant funds are exhausted.

We estimated that $1,000 would allow a reduced fee of $25 for all adoptions for one to two months, and would benefit approximately 50 animals. Unfortunately, adoptions have been very, very reduced over the past few months as compared to pre-pandemic rates. To date, seven dogs and 10 cats have benefited from the grant funds. The funds will continue to be disbursed until 50 total adoptions have been accomplished.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Linda is one of the pets who benefited from the Kia Pet Adoption Grant. Linda entered our shelter as a stray. She was provided all vet care, including vaccinations and spay surgery, and was then promoted for adoption on social media and Petfinder.

The reduced adoption fee helped her to meet her adoption match, and now this great little pup is loving her new life!
