How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The KONG products are a wonderful addition for our shelter babies. We have been working on enrichment at our shelter, and the KONGs have been a huge part of our engagement. The donation is highly appreciated by the Alleghany Humane Society, as well as our furry friends.

The KONGs have made a huge impact by offering the shelter dogs something to keep them busy and helping us maintain a happy and quiet population. We fill our KONGs with Milk Bones and peanut butter, which our shelter friends enjoy. As the staff is only on-site during the day, this offers our shelter friends something to occupy themselves throughout the night.

We have a dear fella in our care, Smokey (first and second photos), who is epileptic. He requires medication twice daily for his seizures. As this has caused us to have difficulty finding Smokey the right home, he has become the shelter favorite. We make sure that Smokey enjoys extra spoiling here in our shelter. As Smokey has a stuffed alligator which he takes everywhere, he now can’t decide between his KONG or his alligator. By Smokey having his KONG during the night, it has helped reduce his stress level while preventing further seizures. We will continue spoiling Smokey until we find him the best home possible.
