Chesterfield Animal Services: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We were able to find homes for 33 animals through the NBC Clear the Shelter Adoption campaign held on Aug. 26-27. We were also able to find a new home for two additional animals after the event: one kitten adopted by a senior citizen, and one heartworm-positive dog who needed an adopter who was willing to continue treatment.

How many pets did this grant help?

35 animals

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Ferdinand is a very sweet, loveable mastiff/pit bull mix. He gives a whole new meaning to the term “gentle giant.”

He was adopted from our organization earlier in the year. Sadly, his owner developed a serious medical condition and had to reluctantly return Ferdinand to our care.

Unfortunately, Ferdinand had developed his own serious medical condition: He tested positive for heartworms. We started him on the slow-kill treatment method and began the search for his new home.

Thanks to this grant, his adoption fee was waived for a kind new adopter who could focus their financial efforts on continuing Ferdinand’s veterinary treatment.
