The Sighthound Underground: Sponsor a Pet Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We have taken in several senior and special-needs dogs this year and this grant went toward veterinary expenses for our dogs in foster care.

We can only help as many dogs as we can afford to support. Having the funds to support veterinary care means we can accept more dogs in need. The majority of our dogs are pulled from shelters. Our goal is that all dogs should be in foster homes, which we believe makes the transition to an adoptive home easier and increases the success rates of our adoptions.

How many pets did this grant help?

This grant contributed to the vaccination and veterinary bills of one pet.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Slick the Afghan hound was living in a barn in rural Virginia when his owners divorced and asked us to find him a new home. As a 10-year-old dog, his adoption options were not good. Unfortunately, a visit to the vet confirmed that Slick also had a tumor on his heart that is pressing against his throat. Medication has brought his condition under control and he is comfortable now in a loving foster home. We are committed to his care for the rest of his life.
