Stafford SPCA: Stretch and Scratch Cat Scratchers Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We placed several of the Stretch and Scratch blocks in each Community cat room within our shelter and also sent them home as part of cat adoption packages.

The cats enjoyed the Stretch and Scratch blocks in their rooms, sprinkled with a little catnip to keep their focus and attention on the block. The greatest benefit was in the conversations that were sparked by our volunteers and guests, when they asked what the blocks were for. The blocks gave us the opportunity to talk about PetFinder.com and our relationship with the website, other Grant opportunities that we've enjoyed and that this particular grant was a partnership with Jackson Galaxy.

How many pets did this grant help?

The blocks were used and a benefit to all the 45+ cats housed in our shelter.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Tito was our latest cat adoption, that took a Stretch and Scratch block to his new home. Tito came to us as one of two kittens to mother, Harmony. We saved his mom and brother, in addition to 27 other moms/kittens from a local high kill shelter in June 2011. Tito enjoyed a stress free life in our open community rooms with about 9 other cats until he was adopted January 9, 2014. Now he lives a life of luxury with a retired couple and enjoys their full attention.
