Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We requested funding from the Petfinder Foundation to cover costs associated with dental checks and extractions for five animals. On average, dentals cost approximately $200 per animal, and that cost includes a significant discount received from our partner veterinarian clinics. These costs add up quickly, yet an animal must receive dental care if they are to life a happy, full life.

These funds were able to help four animals in our care receive dental care. All of these animals were senior animals -- dogs and cats -- and for one, his dental needs were extensive. Because of your support, these animals received the care necessary to regain their health and find loving homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Chispin is an adult hound mix who was rescued from the Miami-Dade Animal Shelter and transferred to our organization. When he arrived, his teeth were horrifically dirty and we knew that he desperately needed a dental cleaning and extraction of some teeth. With help from our local veterinary hospital, Chispin’s teeth were cleaned and 22 teeth were extracted. He is currently resting in a foster home with his bonded friend Cookie. Both Chispin and Cookie will be available for adoption in the next two weeks.
