Hurricane Animal Shelter: A Shot at Life Vaccination Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We have been able to vaccinate all incoming animals at our Shelter.
Having pets current on vaccinations helps keep them healthy while they are in our care. Pets that have current vaccinations are more appealing to adopters because they have a better chance at a healthy start in their new homes. It is also one less expense for the new adopter.
How many pets did this grant help?
We have so far vaccinated 22 dogs and 24 cats.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Summer around here means litters of kittens arriving at our Shelter. Most come from unknown backgrounds with little or no prior medical care. Being able to vaccinate them as they come in has greatly reduced the amount of upper respiratory virus that we usually have to deal with. This grant has helped each and every one of them.
In the past month we have cared for several young pups under 6 months of age. Often we see Parvo take a toll on the ones without prior vaccinations. This month we have not had to deal with one single case of parvo and all the pups went on the happy healthy homes.
