Nuzzles & Co: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Cat Enrichment Grant allowed us to provide treats (mainly Churus -- our cats and kittens LOVE them), scratching posts, beds that allow hiding/cozy spaces, toys, and Calming Care supplements for the cats under our care.

We are a Fear-Free Certified Shelter, and we use Churus during veterinary procedures and to also gain the trust of cats who come to us with medical concerns or those who are scared. Calming Care supplements also help us soothe scared cats and help them come out of their shells and have better chances for adoption.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Scarf (first photo) is a sweet long-haired cat who came to us from our local animal control office with an injury to his back leg.

He was slated for an orthopedic surgery, but when our vets performed the surgery, his injuries were more severe than they had suspected and he ended up having an amputation.

In addition to his orthopedic problems, Scarf seems to have an additional fragile-skin issue that causes him to have irritation and rashes, so he has to wear soft onesies with special soothing medications applied.

The Calming Care, treats, and cat scratching posts and toys have helped Scarf heal while in our care. He’s doing well, but is still being monitored after his surgery and is not available for adoption just yet (we hope he will be medically cleared soon!).

As he heals and prepares to meet his forever family, Scarf has an entire room to himself with lots of enrichment and treats, and our staff and volunteers dote over him!

Please see the video posted to our social media to see Scarf and more of our cats and kittens enjoying their Petfinder Foundation Cat Enrichment goodies.
