Humane Society of Wichita County: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We adopted out a total of 17 dogs and cats within three days of posting the awarded Petfinder Foundation Kia grant. It helped us move five of our "long timers" who had been at our shelter for over a month or more.

We used all the grant money in three days. It was amazing and the families that came in were so nice and grateful. Most of them left us a donation or paid for another adoption. This was truly a "pay it forward" week for us. Thank you so much.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Twig (first photo), a border-collie mix who came into our shelter very thin and with hair loss from a flea allergy, was adopted by a very loving family (second photo). Twig had been here more than a month waiting for his new home.

Oscar (third photo), a 3-year-old heeler mix, was adopted by a family. Oscar was pulled from a hoarding case. He came in very scared and had a bad skin infection. Oscar had been here for almost two months before finding his forever home.

Ruby, a 2-year-old wirehaired pointing griffon (fourth photo), had been at our shelter for more than three months before she found the perfect family. Ruby doesn’t do well with smaller dogs. The new owner came from out of town to adopt her. He had no other dogs or children. He couldn’t resist her whiskers and calm spirit.
