How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The KONGs were used with the dogs in their foster homes as they waited for forever homes. These particular toys were enjoyed by dogs who were in heartworm treatment and had to be kept on a limited-exercise program. They were also enjoyed during Hurricane Harvey to encourage safe and healthy play inside during the storm.

This grant provided our foster dogs with a safe alternative for an inside toy during the stormy weather during Hurricane Harvey and entertained foster dogs who were undergoing medical treatment. Westie and Scottie Rescue Houston took in 23 dogs during the month of September following Hurricane Harvey. These toys were utilized in the dogs' isolation crates during their two-week quarantine period.

Leonardo and his two brothers, Michelangelo and Donatello, came into rescue when they were a few days old. They were raised in a loving and caring foster home. Despite many meet-and-greets, they have had a rough time finding their forever home. They are bouncy and loving when they are comfortable, but timid and shy at first. During Hurricane Harvey, the boys were limited on their outdoor time. The extreme rains washed away parts of the yard and compromised the fence in their foster home. In order to keep them safe, happy, and entertained, their foster mom utilized the donated KONGs for all three boys. Anyone with a puppy at home knows that a bored puppy is a destructive puppy. The pumpkin-filled KONGs held their attention when it was most critical. Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo are all available for adoption. Meet them:
