Rudy's Rescue: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant made it possible to purchase supplies needed to start finishing the inside of the building we got to house our senior dogs. Once finished, the building, which will be set up like a room in a house, will be a quiet place for our seniors to rest, recuperate, and enjoy their final years.

How many pets did this grant help?

4-5

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Lola (first photo) and Barkley (second photo) are two senior pets who will benefit from the separate building once it is complete.

Lola is 14 and Barkley is 11. Although both are friendly, they are very bothered by younger or more energetic foster dogs who come through and are visibly stressed. The confusion and noise sometimes make both dogs react and lash out at the other dogs.

These seniors have shown to do better in a separate room or space but, unfortunately, there is not enough room in the foster’s residence to keep everyone separated. Finishing the building will let them and other seniors whom we bring in have the quiet space they need.

Barkley has been available for adoption for several months but is still searching for his new home. You can meet Barkley here.
