Beaumont Pets Alive: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Petfinder Foundation grant of $250 was used to purchase needed food for the animals in our care during the pandemic.

Since we were unable to hold adoption events in-store at PetSmart or PetCo or do transports to find the animals homes, they were in our care for a longer period of time than they normally would be. The grant helped by allowing us to purchase needed food, as many of our donation sources became unavailable during the pandemic and shut down. We worked to find alternative ways to get the animals in our care adopted by during virtual a "Yappy Hour" every week, and had a good amount of success.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Barkley came in to us through our local city shelter, Beaumont Animal Care, off the euthanasia list. He was on the list only because he didn’t get adopted and they were out of space. We had no previous history on him since he was picked up as a stray.

Barkley had a bit of nervousness about meeting new people, but once you had his trust, he would become your shadow and just wanted to be loved. He was supposed to go on a transport to Washington for adoption after he was sterilized and updated on vaccinations, but that was cancelled due to Covid-19. It all worked out great though, because he found the perfect family right here in Texas though one of our virtual “Yappy Hour” events.

Barkley’s new family says he is the best dog ever! He gets along with their cats, he’s affectionate, house-trained and is currently enrolled in private training classes to learn how to walk on a leash and not chase the UPS truck.
