Second Chance Dog Rescue: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Ellie's adoption and transport costs were covered for the adopter, and two giant-breed-sized orthopedic beds and $400 worth of joint supplement were provided for her adopters.

We were able to help offset some of the cost of adopting a senior pet, a giant-breed one at that, so that she was more adoptable and she will be nice and comfy and in the best shape she can be, hopefully for years to come.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Ellie was surrendered by her owners when they returned a dog that they had adopted from us. They had moved and were unable to keep two giant dogs contained, and they ended up at the shelter. We couldn’t leave Ellie behind, an older gal who was losing the only home she had ever known. Ellie did very well in foster but waited a long time to find her forever home. Finally she caught the eye of a young couple with a baby who had just moved to the area and settled in, but knew they would probably move in the next five years or so. They had fostered and volunteered for rescues in their old home, and they knew how difficult it can be for seniors to find homes, so they specifically searched for an old lady to share their love with for the time that they are here. We were very honest about her breed and her projected lifespan, and with her big smile and sweet and gentle personality, Ellie was the perfect choice for their family. We were so excited to help out this wonderful and thoughtful family and reward them for their kindness to a good old girl.
