Ready 2 Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the Kong toys to keep our dogs happy and occupied while waiting for their forever homes.

The toys provided help occupy our dogs, keeping them happy while they await their adoptive families. We have seen in the past that dogs can develop bad behaviors when they are with us too long. Sometimes they get irritable, destructive, depressed, etc. The toys gave them something to do when they were in their rooms, decreasing the undesired behaviors. They appeared to be more content and happier with the toys available to them.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We had one sweet girl named Bella who’d been with us almost a year. She was one of the sweetest big girls you could meet when we pulled her from a local shelter. After several months, she became a little irritable and nippy and did not want to go in her room at night after being in daycare all day. We started giving her the Kong toys, with treats or peanut butter in some, whenever she would go into her room. This gave her something to do, and a purpose: getting the treats or peanut butter out of the toy. Her behaviors improved, and we were able to find her a loving home with a new purpose: She became the best friend and protector of a little girl who needed her as much as Bella needed a purpose in life. Because of this grant, Bella was able to get through the months of waiting until she finally found her forever home! The first photo shows Bella lying on the floor with the rope toy in her forever home.
