Companion Connection: Stretch and Scratch Cat Scratchers Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Stretch and Scratch cat scratchers are used in the cages where we have the cats up for adoption (Petco habitats in Bastrop, TX) as well as the acclimation cages in the sanctuary located on our property in Elgin. TX. The scratchers are given to the cat adopters.
It allows us to have fresh scratchers in cages most of the time and to give the scratcher to the adopter so the cat has something familiar and useful in his/her new home.
How many pets did this grant help?
Six cats at a time are at Petco in the habitat. We have adopted out 4 cats this past January. Also the cats in the sanctuary - 18
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Sweet Luke lives in the sanctuary and is deemed “unadoptable” because he develops urine crystals which is controlled by special diet, but he also refuses to use the litter box 100% of the time. He is out with all the cats during the day, but is placed in his private cage at night where he can eat his Urinary S/O food in peace. He loves his cage cat scratcher and goes through them quickly. rnScratchers are also placed on the outside of acclimation cages for the sanctuary cats to use and they too are replaced about every other month. So 18 cats enjoy the scratchers on a daily basis.
