Oak Hill Animal Rescue: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The funds were primarily used for operations. We operate a private shelter and have approximately 140 animals under our care at any given time. Food, vaccines, heartworm preventives, spay/neuter, microchipping, etc., are everyday expenses we incur.

Due to Covid and having to suspend adoptions, our cash flow from donations and adoption fees was reduced. This grant helped us continue to provide care to all the animals that come through our rescue.

How many pets did this grant help?

We have approximately 130-140 animals in our care at any given time. All of the animals benefited from this grant.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Jelly Bean came to us after being hit by a vehicle. X-rays showed she had multiple cracked and broken ribs. For three weeks, she was kept on a blanket and had to be manually turned from side to side every few hours. After that, she was able to get up and walk for brief periods. Her subsequent vet visits showed she was healing nicely but it would take months to be 100%. We restricted her adoption possibilities to homes with no small children for fear she would be fallen on and accidentally hurt again. She is a happy, playful puppy and has found a wonderful home.
