How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Texas Cattle Dog Rescue provided Kong toys to dogs in foster care, particularly younger dogs.

We often rescue dogs that don’t understand what toys are. Kongs are a great way to introduce dogs to toys. We like to fill them with treats to generate that initial interest and reinforce what’s appropriate to chew on. And since Kongs are so durable, they are perfect for even the most powerful chewers!

How many pets did this grant help?

So far, eight, but we are continuing to distribute them to foster homes as we get new dogs into the program. We easily have enough to last through the end of the year.

The Dude is a blue heeler rescued from a large municipal shelter. He’s a younger dog who didn’t have a lot of experience around other dogs or with toys. But he was smart and playful and learned quickly that toys are super awesome! His Kong is a favorite. He enjoys running around with it and playing keep-away with the other dogs.
