How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kong rubber chew toys were distributed to dogs who would benefit from the additional stimulation and distraction of the treat filled toys.

The dogs enjoyed discovering hidden treats inside the toys.It gave them something to keep their minds occupied with and the pleasure of having a toy that led to tasty treats.

How many pets did this grant help?

At least 30 dogs played with, and enjoyed, the Kong toys.

Babe is a special little lady who came to us covered in cactus and with a paw that had sloughed off down to the bone because someone had tied something so tightly around her ankle. For the first few weeks we soaked her leg every other day and changed the bandage while the antibiotics got the infection down so that the leg could be amputated. During this period, and during her recovery from her surgery, Babe enjoyed chewing on her Kong toys. She would spend long sessions licking the filling out of her Kong toys and chewing away until she recovered the hidden treats. Knowing how much she had suffered and how much pain she had been in, it was a joy to watch her be distracted and having a good time enjoying her Kong toys.
