Helotes Humane Society: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Funds were used to purchase wire crates, toys, food, litter, and playpens for our organization.

This grant allowed us to purchase the items above that are being used by our foster parents to help take care of the many animals we have taken in since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the initial stay-home order in San Antonio, TX, on March 18, 2020, we have taken in 390 animals. Many of these were placed into new foster homes that needed the equipment and supplies we were able to purchase with this grant.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Ember and her kittens (Mazy, Cleo, Declan, Tigerlilly, and Chloe) were six of the pets helped by this grant. Their foster parent found them in her neighborhood and reached out to us for help. She had never rescued any animals before but was concerned for their safety and decided to take them in. The kittens were approximately 1 week old when they were found and, while their mama was taking care of them, they need to be taken out of the elements.

We were able to accept all of them into our system and provide the new foster parent with the help and resources she needed to ensure they grew to be happy, healthy pets. Each of the kittens has been adopted, while Ember is still looking for her forever home as a barn cat since she prefers to be outside. She can be viewed here.
