Tejas Rescued Pet Adoptions: Disaster Response and Recovery Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The money was used to help the dogs and cats in our care that lost their adoption locations and foster homes due to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. The PetSmart location we use to adopt out cats lost electrical power, requiring volunteers to move the cats to higher ground at a warehouse to escape the flooding. The dogs were moved to kennels in another town that escaped most of Hurricane Harvey's damage.

The grant enabled Tejas Rescued Pet Adoptions to save all of our pets in our care and keep them safe during and after the Hurricane Harvey event. The grant paid for kenneling, food, veterinarian care, transporting and keeping the dogs and cats happy and healthy until they could be returned to their adoption locations. Tejas also was able to care for pets that lost their homes during the flooding. Unfortunately, some of the locations still need extensive repairs. All of our pets are safe due to the Disaster Grant from the Petfinder Foundation.

How many pets did this grant help?

52 cats and 61 dogs

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One of the cats the Disaster Grant helped was found up in a tree, suffering from shock and exposure. “Harvey” was treated at a veterinarian, neutered after he recovered and received updated vaccinations. Tejas was never able to locate an owner, so Harvey was placed up for adoption. In only two days, Harvey was adopted. All this was made possible by the Disaster Grant.
