Piney Mountain Foster Care Inc.: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Kong dog toys were used as enrichment and entertainment for dogs when they are restricted to their kennels.

The Kongs proved especially beneficial at bedtime, inducing the dogs to settle on their beds and prepare for sleep. They were also great to have during severe weather, when the dogs were confined to their bedrooms to keep the building heated.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Luna Lovepitt is an anxious dog who came out of a horrible situation of abuse and neglect. Playing with her Kong toy helps to occupy her and focus her energies so she does not stress out and become destructive of her blanket, bed, or water bowl. She is thrilled to settle in at bedtime and enjoy the warmth of her heat lamp, her soft blanket, and her Kong toy stuffed with biscuits. You can see a video of her here.

Luna is undergoing rehabilitation and is not yet adoptable. She is not yet listed on Petfinder, but she has a web page here.
