Kind Keeper Animal Rescue: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We received 10 pet beds from the P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant and we use them for our animals at the shelter.
We are a small facility and run strictly off of donations, so we do adoption events one to three times a week, year-round. In South Carolina, it can get very hot out, so the cooling side of the mat is perfect when we are out at events. In the winter, being located in the south comes with the benefits of winter days not being too cold, so we are able to do events year round, but that doesn't mean the ground is warm enough for our dogs to curl up on, so we look forward to having these beds this winter.
The beds are small enough to be folded and transported easily. Since we use them on multiple shelter dogs, washing them in between uses is very important, and these beds are great for that as well.
These beds helped the pets in our care stay cool while out at adoption events this summer and they will continue to help keep their bellies warm at winter events. People of the community love to see how well we treat our shelter dogs when we are out at events and this helps benefit the reputation of our rescue.
In addition to adoption events, we use the beds at the shelter on very hot days because we do not have the best AC in our facility. We often take in pregnant dogs and they can get very hot and pant heavily when close to giving birth, so we also plan to use these on future pregnant intakes.
How many pets did this grant help?
Since recieving the beds, we have used them at two events and about eight dogs got the chance to relax on them. Many more dogs in our care will get the chance to use these beds, too!
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Meagan Roo (first three photos) has been in our care for over two years now and she does not often get out of her kennel because not just any body can handle her. Meagan is the sweetest dog once she trusts you, but this takes about a month of working with her.
We do have some volunteers who take her out for day trips and long walks. When Meagan comes back from her adventures, she is very hot, so she loves coming back to a cool pet bed!
We are all working very hard to find Meagan Roo a home, but until then, we strive to give her the best life we can! You can meet Meagan Roo here.
