Dorchester Paws: REDI Training Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This training helped our staff understand how and why we push to be more inclusive in our processes. It opened the door to train our staff on what inclusivity really means and what it can do to increase adoptions and return-to-owner rates in our organization.

We've started a new Pet Support program to help keep pets from entering our shelter. By listening to the needs of each individual who comes to us for support, we are better able to assist our community as a whole.

How many pets did this grant help?

I believe it helped all the animals that came into our facility in 2022: 3,900.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The training our staff received from this grant changed the way they view our open adoption policy and made them more empathetic when dealing with the constant flow of intakes.

The kindness being shown to our community has spread and brings in parts of our community that we haven’t always reached.

By reaching other parts of our community, we were able to adopt out one of our dogs who had been in our care for over 100 days and was quickly showing kennel deterioration. Since being adopted, he is thriving and doing well.
