Ten Lives Cat Rescue: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

As a foster-based rescue, Ten Lives relies on adoption space provided by our local PetSmart in Warwick, RI. This space allows us to publicly showcase adoptable cats and open up more foster homes to help cats in our community.

Recently, we were awarded a cat enrichment grant from the Petfinder Foundation to update this adoption space. Whether our adoptable cats are in foster or at PetSmart, our goal is to provide space that allows them to express their natural instincts, such as climbing, scratching, and perching.

Thanks to the enrichment grant from the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to purchase six Kitty Kasas (three bedroom, three recreation), three "Penhaus" beds, three window perches, and scratching boards for the adoption space. Every Ten Lives cat who resides at the adoption space in 2022 will receive their own scratching board in their kennel so they can stretch and scratch while hanging out.

In 2021, 106 cats utilized the adoption space at PetSmart. The investment made by the Petfinder Foundation is estimated to help at least 125 cats in 2022. That’s a lot of happy and enriched cats!

How many pets did this grant help?

About 125

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Cayenne, Ariel, and Candy (first, second, and third photos) are three adoptable cats who are now benefiting from the enrichment upgrades.

Cayenne is an adventurous and playful feline who immediately took to the new window perches and recreation Kitty Kasas. She loves scratching on the cardboard platform of the window seat as well as lounging on it and hanging over to say hi to anyone who walks by.

Ariel is a quieter soul who immediately investigated the new digs. She loves perching on the window seat and watching all of the shoppers who pass by. She also likes hanging out in the Kitty Kasas and getting cozy.

Candy is a wild child and loves to jump from the window seat to the Kitty Kasas and back to the window seat. She thinks it all belongs to her and we don’t have the heart to tell her otherwise! All of the cats mentioned have loved their scratching board, but especially Cayenne.
