Finding Shelter Animal Rescue: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thank you for this amazing grant. We used the generous grant donation for food for the animals.

Our food expenses are high because some dogs eat commercial foods that are easy to buy but others are fed prescription diets because they have special medical needs.

How many pets did this grant help?

30

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Mercury was rescued by Finding Shelter from a Pennsylvania puppy mill with 16 other Australian shepherds. The dogs came with various medical and behavioral issues. Mercury had severe GI issues and, through a few food trials, it was determined that he needed to be on a Royal Canin Ultamino diet at the cost of about $75 per bag (after a generous veterinarian discount).

At 40 lbs., he goes through a bag about every six weeks. He is also on anti-anxiety medication and has been diagnosed with bladder crystals, so he is possibly going to be transitioning to Royal Canin SO Hydrolyzed food if he can tolerate it with his GI issues. Mercury is a loving boy who is skittish and shy, but playful and happy in his foster home. Because of his medical and behavioral needs, he is still looking for his forever home.
