How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The awarded KONGs were used to enrich the dogs in our shelter, as well as to comfort anxious dogs who had recently arrived.

We have been accepting dogs from crowded shelters in the south on a monthly basis since the end of 2019. These dogs are often very frightened and anxious after a 10-hour drive and are seeking comfort. We are able to offer them some comfort and distraction through KONG products filled with peanut butter.

The dog pictured is Lula, a transfer from a shelter in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We used the KONGs to help calm and comfort her as she adjusted to life at our shelter. Now that she is more acclimated to her environment, we also use them to play in our outside kennels! Lula is currently still available for adoption. Lula’s Petfinder profile is here.
