Venango County Humane Society: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Many of the Kongs we started with have shown wear and tear from dog teeth and going through the sanitizer. We have toys for each dog in their kennel, and the Kongs tend to be the best for the heavy chewers. As a special treat, we give out Kongs with frozen peanut butter and yogurt occasionally. This helps the dogs to have something to occupy their time while they wait patiently to be adopted. We were very grateful to receive so many new Kongs to use in our kennels to replace the worn-out ones.

How many pets did this grant help?

Around 200 dogs come through our shelter each year.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Many of our dogs enjoy Kongs, especially those who need tougher toys because they chew up everything else. One of our dogs in particular, Charlie, always has a Kong in his mouth. He loves to pick it up to show anyone who passes by his kennel.

The photos show Charlie modeling a Christmas sweater and some of the brand-new Kongs. This handsome, smart, athletic boy is still up for adoption.

You can meet Charlie here.
