Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

To enrich the lives of the cats currently living in our shelter

This grant provided fresh enrichment opportunities for the cats in our care. They were able to interact with new toys and exhibit natural curiosity and play behaviors with each other.

How many pets did this grant help?

16 cats enjoyed the toys immediately after they arrived, but the products will last some time and further enrich the lives of many more cats in the shelter.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One of the cats helped by this grant was Thunder (first photo). Thunder is a sweet and lovable senior who’s about 11 years old. He was brought to us by a good Samaritan who found him living in an abandoned building. He definitely prefers the indoor life and can’t wait to have a home of his own!

Thunder loves people and attention, but he gets nervous around the other cats. We think he would be best suited in a home where he can be the only pet. He should be spending his golden years in a nice, comfortable home, not in a shelter.

Thunder loved playing with his crab KONG toy. Thunder has not been adopted yet, but he is fully vetted and just waiting for his family to walk through our door! You can meet Thunder here.
