Delaware County SPCA: Stretch and Scratch Cat Scratchers Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The product was used as cat scratcher in our cat cages in our cat adoption area.

The stretch and scratch grant has provided a stimulating, stress relieving outlet for our homeless cats while they await their forever home. Cats in our cat adoption room can now interact in their cage and scratch on the scratching board to keep busy. This stimulation for the cats is vital because it allows them to scratch and exercise in their cage which in turn makes them more adoptable. The cage environment can cause cats to be depressed. This grant has provided a tool to allow them to become active which is very helpful in keeping the cats happy and healthy until they find their forever home.

How many pets did this grant help?

Over 100

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Wanda is a cat that came into our adoption center and needed to have her eye removed. Since she had her eye removed she has had to have a cone around her head. Although, Wanda seems a little depressed with the cone on her head she will scratch on the scratching board which is keeping her active despite her temporary handicap. We are grateful that Wanda is using this scratching post to ensure she is stimulated and coming out of her shell. Thank you very much for awarding us this grant and for giving over 100 cats that come through our cat room an outlet while they await their forever home. rn
