Centre County PAWS: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Centre County PAWS used the $1,000 grant from the Petfinder Foundation to alter kittens who were surrendered to us. In the past three weeks, PAWS has had 40 kittens surrendered to PAWS, with five litters being "orphans" -- younger than two weeks.

This grant helped fund these procedures as we suspended adoptions for 3 1/2 months, losing $10,000 in adoption fees on dogs alone. In addition, we had to cancel a special event, resulting in a loss of $11,000. Other groups were planning to hold fundraisers to benefit PAWS and, due to COVID-19, canceled those fundraisers, resulting in an additional loss of $5,000.

How many pets did this grant help?

13 female kittens

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Carmella (first photo) is one of our orphan kittens (part of the “C” litter – their foster mom says they’re the most social and outgoing kittens she’s ever fostered!) who was spayed thanks to the Petfinder Foundation grant. She is listed as Adoption Pending and will be adopted July 5, 2020.
