C Alley Cats of Lake Wallenpaupack: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Since receiving this grant, C Alley Cats has had seven adoptions at the subsidized rate. Publicizing the reduced adoption fee on Petfinder and social media increased the number of inquiries for an adult adoption. In 2022, our adult adoptions were 34% of total adoptions. In 2023 to date, our adult adoption rate is 50%.

An adult cat was in foster care an average of 198 days before being adopted in 2022. Year-to-date, the average length of stay has increased to 262 days; however, this is a testament to the success of this program. Our wonderful long-term fosters are being noticed and finding their forever homes!

C Alley Cats will continue our reduced-fee adult adoption program until all grant funds are expended. In total, 22 cats will be placed as a result of the Kia Pet Adoption Grant.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Ash (first photo) was in foster care for 674 days prior to her December 2022 adoption. She was rescued at about 5 months of age. Ash was big for her age and terrified of dogs. She is a very loving, “dog-like” cat who was frequently overlooked due to her size. Ash’s adoptive parents were won over by how affectionate she is and are now giving Ash all the love and attention that she deserves.

Penguin (second photo) was in foster care for 558 days prior to being adopted. He was rescued as a part of a barn trap, neuter, and return (TNR) project where we rescued over a dozen kittens. He is now called Petey and he is being spoiled by his new parents. They were able to see past his shyness to the loving, quirky, playful cat that he is. They were so thankful to be able to rescue Petey that they “paid it forward” and donated enough money for an additional adult adoption at the full rate.
