Little RES Q: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Covid-19 Operations grant helped us pay the electricity bill for May and June as well as purchase needed medical supplies to help Fozzy the bearded dragon.
Electricity May 28, 2020: Billed amount $472.38
Electricity June 26, 2020: Billed amount $362.54
Payment for veterinary services: $127.06

This grant helped us through the worst of the lockdown and allowed us some breathing room to develop new contactless adoption and surrender procedures so we could stay open and continue operations. Since then, we have seen a flood of adoption applications and were able to find homes for 53 turtles, snakes, bearded dragons, and geckos.

How many pets did this grant help?

Currently 248 animals in the shelter.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Fozzy the bearded dragon came in to the shelter in mid-March before the lockdown happened. He had yellow fungus disease, an often-fatal and highly contagious (to other reptiles) disease that is also often called CANV after what was once thought to be the fungus that caused it, Chrysosporium anamorph of Nannizziopsis vriesii.

He is still in our care and separated from the rest of the rescue. We have been slowly removing the crusty sores as he sheds, and continuing with his antibiotic treatments. Although this disease doesn’t go away, we hope to find him a home where he is the only reptile in the house, and where his new family knows that his lifespan is shortened due to his condition. He deserves love.
