Miller's Cause Animal Rescue: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the money for femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery and water therapy rehab for Zoe. She was exhibiting stiffness and slowness getting up and down. The vet at that time put her on some pain-relief meds and anti-inflammatories. After several weeks of lackluster improvement, we took her to a different vet for a second opinion. That vet suggested x-rays after her exam suggested a hip issue. FHO surgery was recommended. We were able to get her in for surgery quickly and, while her rehab is slow-going (she is just now using her leg a month later), we are thrilled with the progress she is making at water therapy and using and strengthening her leg.

Because of this grant, we were able to immediately obtain surgery needed for Zoe. During this time of Covid, donations have been way down and barely cover our normal needs, much less a major surgery. We are so grateful for this grant as it allowed us to say YES to Zoe and also yes to bringing in additional dogs because we knew we could help both.

How many pets did this grant help?

One (but really four because we were able to bring three additional dogs in)

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Zoe is a 6-year-old Australian shepherd mix. She is a wonderful dog who loves everyone! She is a laid-back girl and makes friends wherever she goes. She is recovering nicely after having femoral head ostectomy surgery and she thoroughly enjoys her water-therapy swim sessions. We know that as soon as she is fully healed, she will find an amazing forever home because everyone who meets her falls in love!
