Horse Feathers Equine Center: Disaster Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

All of the grant proceeds were used to purchase hay (round bales).

This grant helped us procure much-needed quality hay for our horses. After the unusually wet spring and early summer months, many hay providers did not have time to properly fertilize their crops, resulting in lower yields of low-grade hay product. We were able to use the grant funds to purchase hay from a provider who has consistently delivered hay that meets our standard. This hay helped many of our older and injured horses gain some weight and helped our healthy horses maintain their condition.

How many pets did this grant help?

32 equines

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

This grant helped Gretchen, a paint mare (first photo), who was underweight and pregnant. With proper grain, hay and supplements, she was able to gain sufficient weight and was able to deliver a healthy foal in June. Several horses from the cruelty case we acquired in January were able to gain much-needed weight from quality hay, and we adopted out five into qualified homes. Our sanctuary horses and donkeys also benefited by being able to remain healthy to live their lives here.
