Angel's Rest Animal Society: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Angel's Rest is grateful for the donation of Kong products. They are used as enrichment tools for our special-needs dogs, who usually take longer to get adopted into living families, if ever.

The Kongs are also used as reward tools when dogs succeed at a learned behavior.

How many pets did this grant help?

25 at sanctuary, five in foster care

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Sophie (first three photos) was surrendered to Angel’s Rest due to a bite history and aggression toward other dogs. As such, she cannot be paired with other animals and enrichment is a bigger challenge. Sophie loves her Kongs. During extended periods of solitude, Sophie gets Kongs that have been stuffed with biscuits and peanut butter and then frozen for maximum duration. We found that with “behaviorally challenged” dogs, their level of intelligence is usually higher, so enrichment is a must to prevent boredom and the exacerbation of bad behaviors. Kongs are instrumental when dealing with animals such as Sophie. Meet her: www.petfinder.com/petdetail/36636251
