Angel's Rest Animal Society: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant funds were used to offset the cost of Patrick's adoption, vetting prior to getting adopted, travel expenses to take him to a home two hours away from sanctuary location and to support his costs for the next few years.

This grant helped a senior pet named Patrick, who came in heartworm-positive, get a second look by potential adopters and eventually get adopted into a loving home. Not only did the funds help get him adopted, but also his best friend Max who lived at the sanctuary as well. I am thrilled and grateful that this grant was able to get two old dogs adopted who were otherwise being overlooked. THANK YOU, PETFINDER FOUNDATION!!!

How many pets did this grant help?

Two

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Patrick (first photo) is a senior dog who came to our sanctuary from a nearby [open-admission] shelter. He was heartworm-positive and that is the reason he was admitted as a hospice candidate. Months passed and Patrick’s health improved, he tested negative for heartworm and he became very close with another senior named Max (second photo). Both Max and Patrick were overlooked by adopters due to their advanced age. Patrick and Max attended adoption events together frequently. They also spent a lot of time together. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation Senior Pet Adoption Grant, Patrick got a few more views as his potential high medical bills would not be an issue, at least not in the foreseeable future. Then a wonderful woman named Marian decided to bring Patrick into her home, but also wanted Patrick’s friend to come along. She has opened her home to senior dogs and now Patrick and Max enjoy long walks in her expansive fenced yards, enjoying their couches in the air-conditioned rooms and getting loved and pampered.
