Wood County Humane Society: Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We purchased various items for media and promotions to help us enhance our adoptable animals' presence. Items included a new camera, photo area, editing software, and props. Many of the suggestions from the Adoption Options program involved putting the best foot forward for all your adoptable animals. Of course, in this day and age, the primary way of doing that is by providing the best photo possible.

As we learn how to use the new software and camera, we are finding they are helping us create more attention-grabbing photos for both incoming strays to longer-term residents. These new tools are allowing us to create more eye-grabbing photos and leading to more questions and inquiries on animals needing adoption.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Each animal helped has not always resulted in adoption, but it has been generating extra attention. Since using the new camera for catching moments, we have found many of our animals have been receiving more inquiries; one example is Reagan. From his Petfinder profile: “Hello there, Reagan here! I am a 3-year-old redbone hound. When I came into the shelter, I tested positive for heartworm disease. Thankfully, the wonderful staff here have been treating me so that I can be healthy again. I have been on cage rest for about a month, and boy was it hard on a guy like me, because I just want to run out in the grass and stretch my legs. And being a hound and all, I really can never get enough of the wonderful smells of the outdoors. I will need to be retested in December to make sure that the treatment was a success. Paws crossed! But until then, I’d love to spend that time at your house! I am very vocal, like your typical hound, and will talk all day if you let me! Someone once told me: If you have something good, you’ve just got to let it shine! If I could, I would love to be by your side at all times. I just need all those back scratches and treats 24/7.” Meet him: www.petfinder.com/petdetail/39517616
