Shortly after receiving the grant, we had an emergency with one of our foster pups, an 8-year-old female Chihuahua named Chiquita. Chiquita’s foster parents have dogs of their own and they were all playing together with her. During this playtime, Chiquita received an injury to her right eye. Her foster parents rushed her to the local emergency vet clinic. After examining Chiquita, the vet said the eye needed to be removed and provided the name and number of an animal ophthalmologist in Northern Kentucky. Dr. Haeussler performed emergency surgery and Chiquita was sent home later that evening to rest and recover. A couple of weeks later, Dr. Haeussler removed her stitches and stated that Chiquita was in great health and her surgery had gone very well. Since her surgery, Chiquita has been as active as she was prior. Her surgery has not slowed her down! At this moment, she has an adoption pending. We have a family that fulfilled our requirements and have a date set for delivery to her new forever home.
