Humane Society of the Ohio Valley: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We were able to purchase leashes and "Adopt Me" sleeves and vests for outings and then ask our volunteers to take dogs on trips. Volunteers have been taking dogs off-site for walks and for "pup cups" treats since we received our grant.

How many pets did this grant help?

A LOT! Maybe 200+

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Gertie (first three photos) is a big dog with sad, soulful eyes that search the distance for her owner, who is not coming for her.

She was found in January, discarded as a stray and taken in by a good Samaritan who brought her to the warmth and safety of the shelter.

Gertie loves everyone she meets, but seems to have the broken heart of an animal who was discarded.

A volunteer took Gertie on an outing and to an adopt-a-thon at our local Tractor Supply Co. Gertie melted, enjoying all of attention she could soak in during her outing. Thanks for helping us help Gertie.

You can meet Gertie here.
