HumaneCNY: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed us to waive adoption fees for 20 animals. That means we were able to match 20 families with their perfect pets. This grant allowed nine kittens, seven adult cats, two puppies, and two adult dogs to find their "furever" homes.

As is the same with many shelters around the country, HumaneCNY is struggling to find space and funds to help the large number of homeless animals in our area. While this grant directly helped us to adopt out 20 animals, it will indirectly help even more!

The Kia Pet Adoption grant helped 20 animals by getting them adopted, but will touch even more lives as these 20 adoptions made room for more animals in need of our help. Additionally, it is kitten season, which means we've had an influx of kittens to care for. Thanks to this grant, nine of those kittens have begun happy, healthy lives with their new owners.

We are so grateful for the 2022 Kia Pet Adoption Grant. On behalf of our adopters, animals, staff, and volunteers, thank you again for this amazing opportunity!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One dog helped by the 2022 Kia Pet Adoption Grant is Adonis. Adonis came to us in December of 2021 from a cruelty situation. He and the several other dogs he was with when he came in were all severely emaciated. Eventually, all the other dogs got adopted, but Adonis’ owner wouldn’t surrender him to us.

After a long eight months, Adonis’ previous owner surrendered him into our care. In just over a month, we were able to find him a wonderful adopter who has tons of farm land for Adonis to romp around on. The first photo shows Adonis, now named Charlie, in his new home.

Another animal helped by this grant was Gemma the kitten (second photo). She was born in the shelter after her mom arrived to us on March 7, 2022. Her mother had five kittens, but only three of them survived.

Gemma is a brave little girl! She was finally adopted by a loving family 113 days after being born. Gemma even has two new human sisters to grow up with!

I included photos of four other animals helped by this grant: Twilight, Spare, Danny, and Buddy. Thank you again for helping these wonderful animals find families.
